The Middleburg Barn

Middleburg Barn Wedding Photography

The moment I pulled up to the Middleburg Barn, I was instantly taken back by the wild scenic environment. I love wedding spaces that have a countryside and nature rich feel to them, so shooting at this luxurious venue in Middleburg, Virginia was a real treat.

Middleburg Barn is a very accommodating wedding venue, allowing you to have your wedding ceremony and reception in the same place. This makes for a much simpler wedding planning process – one where friends and family alike don’t have to factor in crazy amounts of travel time and waiting around. With more relaxed wedding guests comes better wedding photographs since everyone is having a good time. As a documentary wedding photographer, this allows me to capture more genuine and natural moments throughout the day.

Wedding Photography

Hey, I’m Jason! I’m a professional wedding photographer based in Northern Virginia and I’m passionate about serving fun-loving couples with documentary wedding photography. I particularly enjoy working at wedding venues close to home and throughout the Loudoun County area.

My mission in photography is to create meaningful images. A meaningful image to me is one that documents a special moment in time while capturing authentic emotion. I believe weddings are an experience filled with countless meaningful moments and thus, should stay far away from becoming a photoshoot. For this reason, I use a photojournalistic approach to capture the natural epic and emotional moments throughout the day.

Weddings are awesome because they are passion-filled from beginning to end. The authenticity in the air excites me and it’s so much fun to document the special moments and help couples relive their special day. The final gallery is a visual heirloom that lasts forever and I’m grateful for the trust couples place in me to immortalize such a special time.

Getting Ready

On this wedding day, the bride and groom got ready in their respective bridal rooms. The Middleburg Barn has ample space to get ready on-site (the bride got ready in the Montana Suite while the groom got ready in the Spanish Riddle Suite). While getting ready wasn’t a huge part of the photography coverage on this day, I still managed to show up early and snag a couple of getting-ready shots.

First Look

Once everyone was suited up, it was time for the first look. There are plenty of awesome spots here where the first look could be done but I suggested that we do it in front of the barn. This way, we would have plenty of open space to walk around and get alternative angles of the couple. Additionally, having an open space allows everyone to feel more relaxed as opposed to a tight space. This was especially important for the groom who was feeling the pre-wedding jitters in anticipation of seeing his soon-to-be wife.

Following the first look, I spent 10 minutes with the couple to capture portraits of them together for the first time on their wedding day.

Luckily, the wedding party wasn’t too far away so following portrait time we proceeded to knock out all the wedding party photos. This is one of the benefits of having a first look because it allows for a good chunk of the formal photos to be taken before the wedding ceremony.

Wedding Ceremony

The Middleburg barn has a great indoor and outdoor wedding ceremony option. They are awesome enough to accommodate up to 350 guests! This wedding day took place in the pristine October air which allowed us to take advantage of the scenic outdoor ceremony space.

Family Formal Portraits

Immediately following the ceremony, the guests were asked to go to the other side of the barn for cocktail hour on the Stone Patio. It was during this time that we began knocking out family formal portraits. This is the only part of the day that can be considered to be more of a photoshoot since we have a specific list that we need to get through. Since this is an essential part of the wedding day, I work with my couples to create an efficient family formal list that helps make this portion of the day go smoothly.

Couple Portraits

Once family pictures were all done, it was time to take some more couple photos. Since we had done a round of photos earlier, I wanted to make sure we could fit in something a little more creative and unique. Having done a little research beforehand along with some location scouting upon arrival, I knew there was potential to do something new that hadn’t been done before. While creative and unique portraits aren’t a guarantee because of timing, this day we had some flexibility to explore.

Wedding Reception

The inside of the Middleburg Barn served as the breathtaking backdrop for the wedding reception. This barn in particular is very spacious and can host up to 350 guests while still leaving tons of room for dance floor fun. The couple on this wedding day were ready to dance the night away and we even managed to sneak away for a little to take some night portraits before finishing the day off with a sparkler exit.

This wedding day proved to be smooth from beginning to end and a large part of that has to do with the incredibly professional and reliable staff at the Middleburg barn. I can’t wait to be back here photographing another big day soon!
